I always wanted to set up my very own facebook page but I seemed to be ‘busy’ all the time.

It will be a purely internet marketing page. What really inspire me to set up my facebook page is after reading the ebook called 7 Ways to Market Your Business on Facebook. A quote from the ebook -

This is a very interesting moment!

I was checking out my ClickBank account yesterday and found out that ClickBank has gone social!

For those who has no idea what is ClickBank, it is the Internet’s leading retailer of digital products. Facebook is a great platform for meeting friends, creating a following for your hobby, service, or project, and for relaxing. There’s an app for every taste, and several of them are incredibly fun and addictive. These 101 tips will get you navigating Facebook like a pro in no time.

Part 1 – finding friends and influencing people Depending on why you join Facebook, you may find it easy to make friends, or may only have it to stay in touch with friends in distant parts of the world. No matter what you do, signing up can be a process that will take up to a couple of hours (including your profile).

1. Signing up
Your own name You should use your own name or your nickname if people use it more commonly, to sign up. It’s important to ensure that your friends, family and colleagues can find you easily.

2. Your email Facebook sends out a lot of notifications once you start signing up with various groups and fan pages, apps and even comments. But people can also find you by your email, so you should probably use a personal email account. Check it frequently for friend requests and more. It has to be real though, because Facebook uses it and sometimes your mobile number to verify who you are.

3. Read the terms and conditions
You should always read the terms and conditions on any site, and Facebook is no exception, though, it should be noted that Facebook frequently updates it’s TOS causing a lot of outrage in the community. Know where your rights are and read their documentation.

4. Search your email
In some cases when you sign up for Facebook, especially if you use a ‘free’ email system such as hotmail or Gmail, Facebook can search your email addresses and see if anyone in your address book is already on Facebook.

5. Profile information – school, university, company
The first piece of profile information Facebook asks for is your School (leaving year), University (leaving year) and Company – this starts the first basic groups links so you can find Alumni and colleagues from work – if you don’t want to find anyone there, leave it empty and click skip.

6. Profile information – picture
Your photo or avatar doesn’t need to be of you, but it’s usually a good idea to use a shot of yourself so that people that aren’t sure they’ve found you can add you. Many people change their profile photos weekly though, so you can use just about any image you hold copyright to.

7. Profile information – basic information
Once you’ve gotten into Facebook, you can fill in any or all personal information on the basic information box, and depending on your security settings, people will be able to see this – it’s sometimes the difference between knowing whether it’s you or another person that they’ll friend, so this information can be useful.

8. Profile information – is Facebook a dating site?
One of the core pieces of information that Facebook asks about on signup is what you’re ‘looking’ for on the site, along with your religious standing. Don’t be afraid to mark ‘friendship’ in that box, even if you are actively seeking a relationship – it makes little difference to people adding you. Facebook is not a dating site, though there are groups on there for finding partners.

9. Profile information – personal information
Many people don’t list all of their hobbies- instead list the ones you’re interested in attracting friends for. If you’ve got a ‘guilty pleasure’ remember that people may be able to access your information, even before you add them, so you may not want to publish that. The boxes in this section are entirely optional.

10.Contact information
One of the boxes you can fill in is ‘contact information’. Be aware that depending on your security settings (see security and privacy) you may then place your ID out in the ‘open’ which can open you up to spam or bot contact.

11. Profile information – Network
If you’re interested in chatting with, or meeting up with people in your region, you can add where you life and join that ‘uber-group’. Some require email addresses or other information that ‘proves’ affiliation, but Facebook has recently improved that interface, so it works very well. Your network affiliation is listed on your profile, unless you change the security settings (see security and privacy)

12.Profile information – friends
As we’ll explain later, you can keep those that you’ve added from appearing in your search, but your friends list is always visible. Be careful when adding ‘controversial’ people in your life, as it’s very easy for other friends to use your list to find others to add – the only exception to this is if you add someone with extremely tight security settings

13. Profile information – relationships
Facebook allows the listing of relationships in your profile – but until the person you’re in a relationship confirms it; you will only be listed as in a relationship. Otherwise you will be tagged as ‘in a relationship’ but not with whom.

14. Fill as much of it in as possible
Remember, you can always come back and add, or subtract information. It’s usually something people don’t do often though, so spending those extra few minutes at sign up to create a proper profile is well worth it.

15. Security from the outset
We talk more about security later, but some people join Facebook simply to keep up with a tiny group of friends – if you’re one of these people, then you will want to ensure your security is as tight as can be (see security and privacy)

16. Finding friends, colleagues and ‘fan’ pages
Facebook has made it fairly easy to find people and add them, but in the mix with the people you can find are fan pages – which are like mini profiles (we talk about these more in section) and groups. It’s important to remember that people, such as authors or local personalities may have multiple listings in search results, so you may need to contact them and ask which to add. You also have to take one extra step to make sure people can find you. You can currently have 5,000 friends total.

17. Searches
Searching by name may bring back dozens of results, so if you know the person well enough, find out what email they use and add them via that. Adding people via email is often easier than searches too because it means you’re certain you’ve got the right person, without opening yourself up to unwanted attention. If you add someone that isn’t actually the person you wanted to add, they can see your profile.

18. Adding people via friends
If you’re a close knit group of friends, or a new group that met through University or similar pursuit, it’s normally ok to go through another friend’s list and find those that you know, but don’t abuse this – adding everyone from every friend’s list can get you flagged as a spammer by
Facebook.

19.More than one profile?
Be careful not to create more than one Facebook page – it’s against their TOS and can lead to confusion when people add you. It is possible to create a main account and make the rest of your ‘accounts’ as pages, but again be careful – Facebook has a policy about fake pages, fake names or abusing that facility.

20.Fan pages too much for you?
You can hide fan page (and app, and even ‘friend’ updates) from view easily by setting your feed up (we talk more about this in the feed management section). Hiding fan pages, even temporarily, can let you get your Facebook reading back under control, and let you decide whether you want to follow them long term.

21.Removing friends, or pages
Removing friends is easy – you just go into your friends list and click the x beside their name. You can find your friend list by looking at the left column of your main feed based Facebook page. Or you can go to ‘Account’ and then ‘edit Friends’

You can remove pages in a similar way, in ‘Edit friends’ then scrolling down to around the middle of the page and clicking on ‘pages’ (it has an orange flag next to it).

22. Using friends lists to organize your reading
Facebook introduced a concept called ‘friends lists’ recently, allowing people to sort their friends into groups, sorting them onto groups of your choosing. Have workmates, best friends, limited profile – the choice is yours. You can also edit en masse by selecting ‘Account’ then ‘edit friends’ – your whole list will appear there with drop down arrow lists, including your pages. Simply filter them onto a list you’re comfortable with and then you can control your feed.

Posting using groups – Your friends list doesn’t just allow you to filter your reading – these groups can simply control what you’re reading or allow you to customize who sees what. If you don’t want your Granny seeing your wild nights out, simply filter her into a group and then, when you post, click on the little light blue padlock. Enter your level of access, and exclude using the bottom box. You can set this as your ‘custom’ privacy build for your posts, or a one off. (see more in security and privacy)

23. Been Blocked?
Facebook is hard to contact in case of problems, but you can sometimes email them at whatever published email contact they currently have, and ask them to review your case – if you’ve done nothing wrong you should be reinstated. If you were hacked, you should contact support urgently and follow their instructions to regain control and become unblocked.

24. Got badge?
One of Facebook’s nicest widgets is the ability to create badges and display them on your webpage or site. If you’ve got a reasonably public profile, you can use these easily – if your profile is highly protected and privacy locked, you may want to consider whether you want to use it at all.

25. Looking for more?
If you have just recently joined Facebook, instead of searching for everyone by name, go to another friend’s profile and find the people you’re looking for by checking their ‘friends’ box, on the left hand side, below information. Be careful not to add too many people though – it can be seen as spamming and may be picked up by Facebook.

26. Security and privacy There’s a lot of options in Facebook that you have to pay attention to, especially if you don’t want to put your information in public. There are options to protect everything that you have on Facebook, creating a stripped out, bare public profile, but you DO need to change your settings, it’s not automatic on creation.

27. Use fine grained controls
Don’t want your family accessing your photos – lock them out. Want to only allow reading access to your status updates to people closest to you? You can do that too (though remember, apps use your default posting, which is your overall status posting setting). Go to ‘Account’ then ‘privacy settings and explore your options there.

28.The tightest locks
If you put everything in your security to ‘friends’ and remove yourself from search engine results, and then start using Facebook, you’ll have to add people, and they’ll never be able to do it themselves. If you don’t want people knowing you’re on Facebook, this is an ideal solution

29. Know your settings!
Understanding what the different settings mean for privacy and posting is what makes or breaks your Facebook usage. There are four settings – ‘Everyone’, ‘Friends of friends’, friends only and custom. Friends of friends means that any information you share on your profile can be visible by anyone that has friend any of your friends, opening your profile up to a lot more exposure.

30. Your name, date of birth, address and other information
Keeping as much of your information private as you can means that you can protect yourself against identity fraud – this also means not adding random people and practicing safe login and logout practices. Facebook is rife with mistakes that have opened people up to identity fraud, but knowing your way around security settings will stop this.

31. Privacy – profile information
In ‘Account’, Privacy Settings, you can choose to set your different parts of your profile and information to one of several settings – you can also customize them so that only your own lists of friends get to see certain things. This extra layer of security is incredibly powerful and worth the time it takes to set up.

32. Being harassed by a colleague that you just don’t want to add?
Sometimes people don’t take no for an answer – if you find that someone is continually asking you for an ‘add’ go to their profile page, scroll down to the bottom and then hit ‘Report/Block this person’. Blocking them will stop any unwanted advances – they won’t be able to see you at all (or you, them)

33.Apps getting you down?
Did an app you added suddenly change its posting policies? Are you finding that some apps are more invasive than you wanted? Go to ‘Account’, then ‘Application settings’. There, you can remove any you no longer want to use, change posting policies (in some cases) and more. Since Facebook changed how apps notify people, their ‘notification’ feeds have been a lot less cluttered, but notifications now appear in the left side bar, which confuses some people.

34. Don’t let Google see you
If Google using what little of your profile is visible after you’ve adjusted your security settings to your perfect level of privacy makes you nervous, you can tell all search engines that you don’t want them to view your profile by going to ‘Account, privacy settings, search and search engines’ and unchecking the box beside ‘public search engine’. If you’ve got good security settings and are happy for your name and photo to appear, have a look at the preview before checking it. There is very little on the average profile, including no updates.

35. Hacked? Sometimes, people lose control of their Facebook account – this could be because of a virus, or worse. You can regain control by following the instructions by following Facebook’s own guidelines. It’s important to do a virus scan as soon as you discover you’ve been hacked – just in case – do that before returning to the site to reclaim your profile.

36. Photos and videos – don’t appear where you don’t want to
Along with all other privacy settings – be especially careful about your movie and photo settings. It’s important that you keep your video and photo settings as private as you can – if you’re tagged in either, it displays them to the ‘world’ at large based on your settings. If you lock your video and photo options to minimum, friends only, you can be sure that embarrassing items will be kept to just your circle, rather than any Google Cache.

Part 2 – Access, API and Apps offsite
Off Facebook access
It’s important to take advantage of any software or apps that you can use, simply because Facebook can become time consuming if you only access it at a primary terminal. Using apps to speed up your access will mean in most cases, your time won’t be devoured by social networking (until you get into games)

37. The best phone app?
There is no one ‘best’ app for Facebook on each mobile platform, so look around and see if you can find a highly recommended one – sometimes phones come with bundled apps, or built in API access – which, if you’re a social animal your phone can be a lifesaver. Be aware that most apps are limited, as are most phone based browsers.

38. Tweetdeck?
Tweetdeck is a twitter poster that has expanded to take in other places like Facebook, and comes highly recommended on any PC or laptop. It has a tiny memory footprint and gives you unparalleled access to a lot of feeds at once. Beware its API call on twitter though (at 150 an hour). Facebook currently has no limitations.

39. Automatic posting?
Some people use automatic posting to allow them to post information at set times, though Facebook’s TOS seems to be a little grey about this. Being careful and only posting relevant information will allow you to connect and network in a way it was designed to allow.

40. Facebook connect
Facebook connect is a handy extension of the Facebook login and API, tying various things back to your profile, or allowing you to interact with other sites, or programs using your Facebook credentials. This can be a good and a bad thing – if the interaction causes constant posting to your feed, people may find it annoying, but it also means you’ve got a centralized login.

41. Lifestreaming
Lifestreaming allows you to pull all of your feeds into one place and Facebook offers several widgets based on what you need for your site – go to Facebook’s widget page – or search the internet for information on how to use your feeds in interesting ways offsite.

Part 3 – The basics of the site
Facebook’s basics are easy to master, but if you skip learning them, it can slow you down massively – there are several functions on the site that most people don’t use, and could, to get more out of their networking, and sharing with friends

42. Posting updates
The main basis of Facebook is the ability to post short (420 character) updates – you can tag friends in these by going @ (name) or simply tell people what you’re up to. Some people take part in mini games in these too – the choice is only limited by character length.

43. Auto subscribing
Commenting or liking someone’s status or notes or anything else in their feed will automatically ‘subscribe’ you to notifications about any future activity. You can reply to this however, from your email, which means you don’t need to log into the site constantly.

44. The notification bar
At the top of the page, there is a blue bar with four icons – this is your quick overview of any activity aimed at you. This includes anything you’ve subscribed to by participating in it.

45. Your newsfeed
Your news feed comes with several options – you can read the most ‘important’ stuff (based on Facebook’s algorithm), or the most recent posts. Missing friends? Scroll to the bottom and click ‘edit options’. Put 5000 in the bottom box – it’ll remove all limitations on your feed.

46. Not interested in a friend’s updates right now?
If for whatever reason, you don’t want to see a friend’s update (for example, their updates are only about games you don’t play) you can hover over their update, and a box will appear saying ‘hide’ – you’ll get different options based on what sort of update you’ve hovered over.

47. Walls
You can have a public discussion by posting something on someone’s wall. This appears in your feed and there, so is great for congratulating someone, or wishing them a happy birthday. Walls are public though, based on the person’s settings.

48. Boxes and tabs
Various apps will allow you to add boxes and tabs to your
profile. Boxes appear on a page, and are small – tabs are headings much like a filing cabinet. These can give you the ability to display key information on your pages, or in separate ‘sub pages’ but can also clutter your profile page – be careful what you place and where.

49. A box on your profile
There is a box on your profile, (when you click view profile) which can be readily edited and contains some key information that you choose. Some people use it to show others their calendar; others display a quote or some mini information. Use this as best you see fit to give your friends and new adds something interesting to read.

50. Left hand side – your profile Your profile has several key areas to interact with – the middle where your feed is, your left hand side, to access your stuff) and the right hand side which has suggestions, your gifts and other items from apps, and some other things, such as pokes.

51. Messages – your messages are your internal email inbox.
This gives you the opportunity to message people without writing on their wall (see the previous tip) or start a discussion between friends – if you’re doing this frequently see our tips on pages and groups.

52. Events
You can set up events – a bit like a calendar, people can RSVP and you can use it to invite friends to anything you’re doing, from a birthday party at your place, to a gaming party or Guild event in your favorite MMORPG. Use it to organize social events without worrying about lost emails.

53. Removing events you can’t attend
Once you have declined an event, you can then remove it from your events list – simply open up the event, optionally leave a note apologizing for not attending then directly below the image on the right hand side, there is an option ‘remove from my events’.

54. Photos and videos
Your photos and videos list item will let you access any photos that are tagged of you (remembering your privacy settings) and review them. You can also remove tags at any time – which means even though you are in the photo, it won’t list in your stream.

55. Applications
All of your applications are accessible from this tab – it will take you through to a list of most used and when, and will also give you options to access others. This is a great tab to review what apps you do – and don’t – use and remove them to save them cluttering your feed, or visit them and check what’s new. You can also search for new apps from there.

56. Games
Much like the applications menu option, the games option shows you when you’ve played, whether your friends play (and how many) and allows you to explore popular games amongst your friends and the wider Facebook population that you may not have seen yet.

57. Ads and pages
We talk more about ads and pages in their own section (Part 5 – ads and pages) but this is how you access them quickly, and if you choose to advertise them, set up Adsense like adverts.

58. Groups
Your groups’ menu item is actually the access to your pages and groups, two columned lists with each showing recent activity and more. You can easily view the things you may have missed simply by checking the recent activity on these pages.

59. Notes
Notes are a bit like mini blogs, or can be used by you to import RSS feeds and automatically post. Its Facebook’s own solution to lifestreaming, but only allows you to import one RSS feed at time. You could build a Yahoo pipe of everything you wanted to import and use that as your ‘uber feed’ if you had a lot of blogs though, so it works out well.

60. Links
Your links menu option is a lot like Del.icio.us – every time you post a link, it’s added to this list, and you can view what your friends have been posting recently, or just keep track of your own stuff.

61. Right hand side
The right hand side of your page contains any application items (such as gifts – be aware that these build up really fast), friend suggestions, information on inactive friends, pokes and event listings (that you’ve accepted).

62. Gifts and application notices
Facebook has suggested that eventually these will all be incorporated into the left bar of the site, where your games are listed, but for now you will still get listings of any gifts, invites to games or any other requests (including friend requests) in that top right corner. You should keep on top of them – 20 invites a day leads to 140 at the end of a week and it can be time consuming to prune them weekly.

63. Application notices out of control
Sometimes, no matter how hard you try your application lists will get out of control. You can either dedicate time to fixing them, or quit from the app in question – by clicking ‘ignore app’. You can also ignore a friend’s invites, but not the friend themselves… Reload the page and any you’ve ignored should be gone.

64. Suggestions
Facebook has an algorithm that chooses information to show you – when people friend other people, sometimes you will have suggestions – as they do with pages and groups. These suggestions and they can’t see your profile (and until they add you, you won’t see their whole profile). Suggestions can be hidden or ignored.

65. Poking
Poking allows a person to see your profile (even if they aren’t their friend). If they are your friend, it will give them a message the next time they log into their Facebook in the right hand bar of their page. Any pokes you’ve received will be here too for you to respond to.

66. Events
You will see a list of any events you’re confirmed to attend in your sidebar – this is a great feature because you can simply align your diary by reading that area and booking it into your time management system of choice. You can also click through and turn down events, or see who else is attending.

67. Ads
If you have used Facebook to place an ad, you will find that they appear in the right hand bar. If you keep seeing an ad, you can report it so Facebook can fix their algorithm for showing them, or hide them entirely from you.

Part 3 – Clicking on a friend’s profile
When you view a friend’s profile, there are a couple of neat things you can do to interact with them, or see what they’ve posted and you may have missed.

68. Under the picture
You can view their profile by clicking on their picture in your feed. Once there, you can poke them, view videos and photos of them, or send them a message. Below that is information that they’ve made available to friends lists, including relationship status. It’s a good way to catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while, then reach out and contact them.

69. Commenting on their wall
You can leave people public messages on their walls – as they can do on yours – just click in the status box and write what you’d like them to see – remember though, it also posts in your feed, so be careful what you say.

70. Adding apps or boxes your friend has
If you see something really interesting that your friend has, click through – and add the app they’re using by following the instructions. If you’ve seen a Facebook page that is exactly how you’d like yours to be, click through and create items as you can.

71. Commenting
You can comment from your own feed, or if you’ve gone over to a friend’s profile (which is a good idea just in case they’ve been bumped out of your algorithm based feed) and comment there. Comments have a length limit, but you can split it over several boxes and it will stack correctly.

72. Tagging
You can tag a friend, or yourself in most photos you have access to – be aware that some people dislike being tagged in photos, so if your friend frequently removes tags of him or herself, maybe you shouldn’t tag them. Any tags of people in videos or photos or notes will appear in their stream.

Part 4– Your own page, or groups
In addition to having your own profile, Facebook allows you to keep basic groups and pages, for fan purposes, or you can set up a group to talk about your passions, your interests or both. You can also join others – some places suggest there is a limit to the amount of pages and groups you can add.

73. Group or page? A page is basically a mini profile – a group has a more group centric feel to its ‘front’ page, but there’s very little difference between them in reality. There are no current accurate figures posted on limits to pages and groups, so there may not be any – but be careful to join an ‘official’ group or fan page belonging to the official entity – there are many unofficial fans and groups on Facebook, and it’s not highly policed at present.

74. Pages and apps
Some apps can post to pages as if they were profiles – much like fully fledged Facebook profiles, pages can have most of the features of a ‘real’ profile, so adding apps to them may be a possibility, depending on the app in question. Explore your options carefully though, because if an app is posting to your main profile, and your page, people following both will get duplicate content.

75. Groups
Groups are like clubs offline – you choose who can join and how wide its access is. Much like other parts of Facebook, it has its own wall, which everyone can post to. Pages have two – one for the owner to post to, one for fans to post to, and then it all feeds into one amalgamated stream.

76. Running both
Many people consider Facebook to be a place for allegiances – groups would then represent (casual) memberships and interaction in clubs, pages could be considered a greater endorsement or badge of interest, so running both isn’t a bad thing.

77. Causes
There are specific apps for causes on Facebook, but if you’re passionate about something, starting a group, or page is a great way to go – remember to make others admin (in edit membership on the group or page’s main page) so you’re not the only one in charge.

78. Ads
You can place your own ads on Facebook – and they run a lot like Adsense ads in most cases. You’ll need to condense whatever message you want to ‘send’ into very short sentences, but these ads are targetable and very powerful.

Part 5 – The best ways to play
There are a myriad of apps on Facebook that make it, not just a social networking site, but a hub where you can share games with your friends and family. Everything from Farmville to Bejeweled currently runs on Facebook’s app system – here are a few tips to jumpstart your play in some of the most popular games.

79. Farmville
Farmville is one of the most popular game apps on Facebook and allows you to run your own farm, grow your own (virtual) crops, tend animals and more. Its simplistic interface allows anyone to play easily. A similar game is Farm Town, but the mechanics are only slightly different.

80. Crops
Try to think about how often you check your Facebook – if you’re planting crops, make sure you’ll be able to come online to harvest them, or they are a waste of space and coins. As the more crops you harvest and the more crops you plant has a relation to your level, planning your crops carefully will allow you to maximize your game play, and afford items you may need.

81. Harvesting When you harvest your crops in Farmville they sell automatically – the same can be said for animals or trees. Farm town stores all of your harvests in a box and you can go to market and sell them.

82. Vehicles and storage
As soon as you can, get a harvester, seeder and tractor – they will allow you to manage much larger farms, but require fuel. You can save up coins to buy them instead of paying real money for Farmville cash. The same thing can be said for buildings – some are limited edition though, so can only be bought with cash.

83. Fuel
Fuel is used to run vehicles – but it’s finite and rechargeable. You can also buy fuel using cash, but larger farms use up fuel before you’ve finished your harvesting, plowing and planting, so remember that whatever you choose to do, you’ll have to still do some ‘manual’ work.

84. Is Farmville cash worth it?
Depending on many factors, including how competitive you are, and whether you want exclusive items, any app that allows you to buy special credits can be worth it. Don’t buy them if you’re a casual player though.

85. Collectables, and projects
Farmville has a mechanism to build things like stables – your friends list has to send you component parts, and then you can build a stable, or expand your storage. This can be frustrating however if they need a lot of pieces. Patience will get you there, and until then keep posting about it every few days by clicking on the building and sharing via that box.
Bejeweled
Bejeweled is a tactical game of destroying gems. There is no ‘right way’ to play, but a couple of tips include:

86. iPhone app
Bejeweled’s iPhone app links with the game on Facebook (via connect) and allows you to post your score to Facebook. It is well worth the money, giving you four mini games in one – and another way to play while you’re waiting somewhere without computer access.

87. Sign up for the competition
Bejeweled offers a free competition and includes the scores from your iPhone app in the updates on site – which allows you to simply join in on the draw, even when you’re not on Facebook.

88. Two different styles of game Bejeweled onsite recently introduced special bonus crystals and more, giving another variation to the one minute blitz style game. Using the ones that fit with your play style can maximize your score. Bejeweled on the iPhone hasn’t had these introduced yet.

89. Bejeweled posts
Bejeweled will post to your profile whenever you reach a points target – sometimes you’ll post a lot in a row, which can be annoying. If you’re planning on playing for a while, you can cancel posting (as you can with any other app) and post the last one. Your friends will appreciate this.

90. Mafia Wars/Vampire Wars
Both Mafia Wars and Vampire wars are basically the same game, with some minor variations – again, like Farmville, you can buy cash or credits to use in special parts of the game, but unlike Farmville, you don’t ‘grow’ crops or care for animals.

91. Finish jobs even if you’re leveled up
Mafia wars and vampire wars allow you to move onto another level (set) of quests, but you should stay on the lower level ones and complete them if you can – it’s a long process in most cases, but it does mean that you get extra skill points, and sometimes, in game cash. Maxing out the completion also gives you cool titles and other stuff that you can’t otherwise earn.
In VampireWars, you need to create minions to feed your powers – these powers can be bought and upgraded to do better things once a day (though it takes several days to increase them to each level). Keeping your minions to at almost three times the amount you need to pay, as when you get into fights, you will lose blood.
In Mafia wars, there’s a similar mechanism – you need to buy properties, and support your illegal items. When you fight, you lose money. In Mafiawars you have to stop back and collect your take – in VampireWars it’s automatic.
Once you’ve completed the jobs/missions, you should always try to fight – be careful to pick someone near your level, or you will most probably lose – beating people of your level and slightly lower will let you level up and win more cash/blood to level with.
Limited edition items are available in VampireWars by playing Akem’s Gamble and with Mandy’s wheel – both are either free or cost a little blood and have a cool down. In Mafiawars there is a daily lottery, and collections. Collections give bonuses and work a bit like talents – they drop every so often when completing jobs.

Other games
There are a myriad of other games that you can play, each based around the things that you like to do best – there are various designs of games, but most allow you to send gifts, and add friends to exchange ‘stuff’.

92. Adding friends
It’s important to remember that not everyone wants to play these games, so if you invite people, don’t do it constantly. If you’re new to Facebook, and your friends are inviting you, look out for those that play, and ask them to add you, or sign up and invite them.

93. Gifts
Sending gifts or elements from a game will also invite people to the game – so be careful who you send gifts to – they may have either blocked the game, or will remove you as a connection. Similarly, you can only send one a day, so choose wisely – if a friend is completing a collection go for that.

94. Posting your achievements
Most games allow you to post your achievements, levels, or important milestones – if that’s all that makes up your feed, you may find that your friends complain – or don’t read anything you post at all.

95. Removing games
Like every other app, you can remove any apps that are interfering with your profile, or posting too often – you may find that your friends complain if it posts too often – if that happens, you can simply change the app’s posting privileges, or if you’re not playing at all, remove it by going to Account, application settings and hitting the X beside the game name.

Apps aren’t just games – there’s a tonne of functions that you can find in some great apps that you can use to add functionality to your new social media hub. We’ve featured a couple here.

96. Networked blogs lets you share your blog
Did you know that Networked Blogs also allows you to post to your own page (we talk about pages in Section 3)? Be careful though – those that have you as a friend and have fanned you will get more double updates from your blogs.

97. Network blogs also allows you to follow other blogs
Including your friends and some of the biggest blogs on the web. If you have a list of friends that you like to read, consider following them on Facebook – if they’re there, their blogs will be inserted into your feeds easily.

98. Networked Blogs or importing notes?
(See 2nd section for more information on notes) Notes are a great way of simply posting a lot of content to your feed, while Networked Blogs has features that blend importing RSS with a group – you can have people fan and rate your blog, have a discussions area and more. It all depends on your community needs.

99. Integrating other networks
Facebook has a lot of ‘bridge’ applications, which allow you to integrate external social networking sites, such as Flikr and twitter into your feeds. These powerful tools can take a while to set up, but are well worth it if you regularly use the sites you’re linking up.

100. Horoscopes and more
Like everywhere else on the web, Facebook has facilities to post horoscopes and more – if you’re interested in that sort of thing, find one that your friends use and post it.

101. Developing your own
Facebook has a powerful API that allows you to develop just about anything based on a framework – so developing something that you think other people might like to play is easy. It’s also good advertising for the ‘cause’ or company of choice.

Have fun
While all these tips cover the mechanics of networking and beyond, it’s important to remember that you should always try to enjoy yourself. Facebook is a social site – be social and enjoy everything it has to offer!

Twitter gains it fame since the US election back in year 2009.

I have my own Twitter account and I always wanted to have a nice background for my twitter account.  But I just never took action to improve it. Before I came across Twilk, this is how my Twitter Background looks like – with me standing next to a Porsche. It really looks unprofessional and not catchy.

The name Twilk is a combination of Twitter and milk. Milk has nothing to do with the service other than the creator of Twilk really likes milk. It helps that the domain name is short, and was available.

SO instead of getting a designer to come out with nice background for your tweeter account, you can always go for Twilk. It is free to use. But you can always upgrade to paid account and  enjoy special features like:

101 Top Tips for Working From Home- Make Money Online

Lots of people want to work from home; no commuting, more time with the family, and the glitzy promises of wealth draws a lot of people in. But if you’re going to be even remotely successful at this, you have to know what you want, what you are comfortable doing and what to expect. Whatever you doing, remember online business is not a GET RICH QUICK scheme. Just like offline business, it has to be carried out in an ethical manner.

The following is a list of tips taken from all manner of at home workers, including friends’ and my own experience and sharing. Some of them may sounds familiar or are ‘common sense’ to you but they are worth mentioning as they are the FACT and will affect your decision to jump onboard as what to venture into online. The tips are applicable everywhere, no matter where you are- Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, UK, US, Korea, Taiwan, Canada, Australia, New Zealand ..etc.

I have slotted them under different headlines, i.e. the workplace, computer and software, the attitude, at home workers-which one are you, wholesalers and turnkeys, choosing a market, communication, payment online, advertising around, outsourcing, honesty, avoiding scams, avoiding viruses, trojans, spyware, and infections, your health while working from home, the Myths busted! The Workplace

Work from home, so as it goes, your workplace is your home. So you need all the basic things at home to start with – internet connection, computer and time.

1. Get high speed internet. If you work at home, communication is paramount; your customers, your clients, and everyone who is depending on you has to be able to reach you and you have to be able to talk back.  No matter what online job you have, you’ll need communication and your internet (especially those doing email marketing) and phone link are your ties. A wireless internet connection is preferred.

2. Pick somewhere comfortable for you to work, with everything close at hand. A lot full time marketers or experts will say that you can work anywhere you like as long as there is internet connection- your bed, your couch, the kitchen table, wherever, and of course this is true, but not 100% ‘correct’. My personal experience tells me that you should have a home office (more organize) if possible. Not only will it be distraction free (at least less nuisance for those with kids and lots of family members), but it also allows a bit of physical separation between work life and home life, even though they both happen at home.

3. On the other hand, if you are going to be on the phone a lot (important for network marketers), then have a quiet place to work because there’s nothing more unprofessional than having your customers hear your kinds, the dog and the television going in the background.

4. Have kids?  Don’t fear; you can still work, if you are organized.  Work while they’re napping, playing, or eating, but don’t forget that you can put it down if your child needs you.  If you have a baby, prepared to work like a demon when he or she goes to bed; that’s just the reality of the situation.

Computer and Software

5. A good computer is key. This can be a laptop or a desktop; though a laptop allows you increased mobility. For many people nowadays, having more than 1 computer is very common.

6. Keep up with the latest software in your field; if you want to do a simple web design, then you may need a dreamweaver or xsitepro; and if you are a SEO (search engine optimization) expert, you may need additional tools like Wordtracker and SEO Recon to help you in your works. In other words, you need the best software of your business to make your work easier and efficient. If you have the intention to file your income, just like any offline businesses, you may need things like tax programs and spread sheets.

7. Know your software. If you’re running an internet business, you’ll need shopping cart software and you’ll have to know how best to use it and how to implement it. You also have to know how to maintain it so that you do not have to BEG for people for help every time you need to upload new product or make changes to your listings.

The Attitude

8. You have to be independent, driven, passionate, and a bit of a workaholic.  You will rise or fall under your own power, no one else will make you work.  That’s the reality of the situation of working at home. But once the system is up, or your business is running smoothly, then you can relax and let the system works for you. Your working hour will subsequently reduce.

9. Understand that your office is your home and you won’t be able to physically escape it.  In order to survive this, you have to have mental walls between your home life and your work life.  This takes practice but it will cut down on your stress levels.

10. Start slowly.  When you’re starting out in the home based business, then it’s best to start slow rather than jumping immediately from a job with secure paycheck to one without.  Every kind of home based worker has to start out at the bottom and this means that you won’t be getting a lot of money for a while.  You also have to get used to a radically different pace of work, so it’s best to ease into things.

11. Don’t sell yourself too short (for those providing services online, like graphic designer, programmers, etc).  Yes it’s a highly competitive field and yes for a while, you will not be making very much money, but don’t let that stop you or make you feel like you only deserve a bit of money.  And never shortchange yourself on respect; if someone who hires you doesn’t respect you, then drop them, no matter how much money they are paying.

12. Be FIRM about your time off.  A lot of new at home workers worked all day every day and burned out.  You wouldn’t work at a job all day every day that was out of an office, so why should you do it at home?  Because you’ll feel pressured to!  Don’t succumb to that pressure; tell yourself, your boss/clients what days you’re available and what days you’re not.  Outsource if you have to.  And don’t forget about the annual vacation!

13. If you are providing services online, be professional and courteous to your clients, customers and bosses; this is what will get you rehired, get customers to come back, and make your job overall easier.  At the same time, though don’t be a pushover or a doormat because you will be dealing with a lot of people and chances are some of them will try to walk all over you.

14. Have focus-focus on your projects and don’t let them pile up on you.  Finish one before moving onto another or finish a chunk of one before moving onto another if you have a few on the go.  Set deadlines for yourself and stick to them (to the best of you ability) so it will be less stressful for you.

15. It’s a lonely life at some points; if you are very sociable and outgoing, it’s may not be the job for you.  If on the other hand, you prefer contacting people through, msn, skype, text or telephone and you like to work alone, then it’s a great career for you.

16. Crunch your numbers!  When you see how much (or how little) you’re making every week, you’ll feel motivated to work harder so you can make more.

17. Survey taker:  Survey takers are the lowest rung, pay wise and work wise.  All you do is fill out surveys, the more the better.  However, it’s fast work and you can get not only cash, but coupons, free samples and other things.  BUT, be aware that you will never get rich from doing this; you will not make a lot of money at all and it’s only good as a very side income.  Also be very careful of scams; if you have to pay to take the surveys or pay to get the sites that offer them, it’s a scam.

Freelance Writer:  Do you enjoy writing, researching, and don’t mind seeing your work under someone else’s name?  Then look into writing.  This job is probably one of the lowest paying in the hierarchy (unless you get on a good retainer), but it’s consistent; there will always be someone looking for writers.  If you’re lucky and work hard, you may get a retainer which is the holy grail of freelance writers.

19. Freelance Graphic Artist:  On the other side of the scale, do you enjoy doing digital art and are good at it?  Then look at being a freelance graphic artist.  Graphic artists design things like logos, pictures, mottos and even e-book layouts; really, anything to do with art.  They are paid better than writers, but it’s harder to get into; you need a portfolio and the more skills you have with art programs the better.

20. Freelance Web Designers:  Web designers are in demand and they are paid well.  You will be creating the websites for your customers and that means you have to know things like HTML and internet codes and be able to design a competitive, customer friendly website.  Web designers are paid well for their work, but be prepared to put in some good hours for it.  You also have to keep up with all of the latest layouts and designs to remain competitive for your customers. Some clients would request to have the websites to be SEO friendly. So you have to know more than you suppose to know!

21. Virtual Assistant:  Virtual assistants are just like any assistant in a business, but from home.  You’ll be doing things like answering calls, organizing things to do with the business, (and sometimes more personal things like shopping), handling customers, researching, and whatever else your boss needs you to do.  Virtual assistants make great money-$20-$55+/hour, but they also do a lot of work.

22. Mystery Shoppers:  Mystery shopping is a bit of an intangible field, but if you enjoy shopping and secretly critiquing stores and restaurants, you’ll enjoy this stay at home job.  Just be sure to clarify what you’ll be paid and how much because some employers will pay in things like coupons and discounts as well as money.  And some mystery shopping opportunities are scams, so be very careful.

23. E-commerce:  If you are an online business owner, you get to run your own business selling your stuff online.  This means that you truly are able to make your own hours and decide how things will be run, but more rides on you; you have to make your business succeed by your own power (and the strength of anyone you hire).  This is considered the penultimate work at home opportunity with countless people trying and failing.  You have to really be persistent to succeed in this, but if you can do it, you’ll be amazed at how well you will do. But it is also a truly competitive area, so you must have your own niche (good product) in order to succeed. If you don’t have the capacity to set up your own e-commerce site, then you can always make use of eBay, Amazon, Shopping etc to sell your product. The good thing about that is the traffic or number of people visiting your products is there for you. 24. Affiliate Marketing: If you don’t have your own product to sell like those who own the e-commerce websites, you can always sell other people products. Online gambling and adult products also offer lots of commission when you sign someone up for their businesses. This is a very good way to make money as the effort involved is less once the system is set up and the return is very good.

28. Forum and Membership Sites: There are many people setting up forums on certain subjects and trying to build up the member base. 34. Drop Catches:  A lot of time people tend to forget to renew their domain names or people purposely let them expire because businesses are no good. So picking up the expired domains will give you some good traffic from sites that link to these domain names or people who have bookmarked them before. So what you can do is to build the site up and start your own selling! Some people will make it into a flipping site.

35. Consultant:  You can be the consultant online, be it a consultant for search engine optimization, consultant for business development, consultant for relationship matter etc. Don’t be surprise that there are many people paying for online consultation.

36. Project Manager: There is also position for project manager online. For some online projects, it involves some coordination among programmers, designers, marketing site, logistic etc. Therefore some site owners prefer to outsource all these tasks to a project manager to coordinate the project. The pay is always very good and but you will have to report to your boss and also deal with several parties involved in the project.

37. Directories: You can set up your very own directory for people to list their sites or businesses with you. And you can do it for free or charge a listing fee when you grow big and popular (with high PageRank). A lot of people submit their sites to the directories not only for better exposure and more traffic, but also to build back links to their websites (for SEO purpose). It is recommended to start your own directory for certain niche, e.g. for digital products, health products or even adult products.

38. Paid to Post: There are a lot of forums out there and especially for the new set up, the forum owners may offer people money to post in the forum (pay per post). And also some business owners may engage your service to pay in forum to advertise their businesses. So, whenever there is demand for certain thing, there will be supply for it in every market.

39. Adult Entertainment: If you are under age, forget about this option. If you like to dress up kinky and talk to people through the webcam, ah ha…! then you can consider those adult webcam service websites. Or you like to talk dirty? 41. Arbitrage: You may have heard of the word arbitrage in financial term, but there is also sport arbitrage that you can look into. Those involve in sport arbitrage make use of the difference in odds at different bookmakers to make money. There is always software that helps to collect the odds from different bookmakers and show you the arbitrage opportunity. But there is also risk in sport arbitrage- you must have enough cash to place your bet with different bookies and you also have to be fast before the odds change!  My experience tells me that it is NOT Easy and Time Consuming. But if you can take the risk and know when to pull back, it may be a ‘good’ investment to throw some money in HYIP- I am not encouraging you to do so here. A lot of them promise you 10% return per week, and some even promise you 10% per day. So it is again up to you to make your own judgment. A lot of times, the early birds will make money! 43. Product Creation: You can create CDs for sale online or even helping people to produce CDs and ship on behalf of them. For example Kunaki, they help not only to produce digital cd / dvd, they also help to publish and ship for their clients. And most important, the cost is reasonable!

44. Hosting: You can be a reseller for hosting companies, or join their affiliate program. A lot of time they are paying you up to 1 year of hosting fee for every customer you recruit for them.

45. Google Adsense: Advertisers pay Google to list their websites on the SERPs and also at some content related pages or websites. If you own a website, blog etc, you can always opt to have Google Adsense on your sites (monetize your sites and this can be done easily via the Blogger or WordPress platforms). Google pay you certain amount (the guess is Google is sharing 50-50 the profit with you for the PPC campaign) for every click on the ads that come from you website. But DO NOT click on the ads yourself or even engage someone to click on the ads as Google can penalize or ban you for life if you get caught. There are many people being penalized for that and that proved Google is better than FBI, KGB or CIA!

46. Link Monkey: There are lots of people providing link building service. Link building is important for your website. A website with good links will be regarded by search engine as important and popular site and hence rank the website higher in SERPs. You can help people to build links (to directories, blogs, press release, article submission etc) and charge a lump sum for your service, and come out with a simple report to your client at the end of the day. But be careful here. Bad links may spoil your website ranking.

Wholesalers and Turnkeys

47. If you want to sell some physical product and you do not have one, then you’ll need a good drop shipping wholesaler.  Drop shipping wholesaler stock and ship out the items for you and you keep a percentage of the profit.  This cuts down on your workload and gives you more of an inventory for your goods.  However, there are a lot of wholesalers that are crooked, inexperienced, or just wrong for your business, so look around for one. But keep in mind that the drop shipper may not have the item in stock sometimes so you must be updated with their inventory from time to time. 48. Know where to find coupons.  Wholesalers, shippers and suppliers, and warehouse merchants have promotional coupons that allow you to save money on large shipments every month.  You just have to track them down on the company website and take advantage of them.

49. If you’re brand new to the online business world, then you don’t want a wholesaler, but a turnkey system.  The turnkey system takes over much of the running of your business for you; you can have it do things like advertising, website building (it’ll be a basic one, but still) and the stocking and shipping of your goods.  Turnkeys are great for beginners, but once you get the ropes, then you’ll want to move to a wholesaler so you can customize your website the way you want it.

Choosing a Market

There are a few different kinds of markets.  Before you jump in, decide what you want to do because each kind of market requires different kinds of work, advertising, and different needs to make the business work.

50. Services vs products: do you want to sell your time or your goods?  Services include things like: writing, graphic design, web design, consulting, accounting, and customer service.   Goods are anything material (physical or digital) to sell.  You can mix it up too-sell your writing and e-books for example, or design web sites (website flipping) and sell clothing, health product like, vaginal odor or premature ejaculation cure product etc..  It’s all a matter of preference.

51. In order to get into selling your services, it’s best to start with a third party site (e.g. Elance , RentaCoder) that hooks up workers with employers and then offer yourself up for long term work whenever possible.  These long term partnerships allow you to have steady work and ask for raises and bonuses whenever applicable. There are also professional copywriters, e.g. John Angle, who set up their own websites providing copywriting services to high budget customers .

52. When you are selling your products, you can basically start up your own website and go; however, if you want to start off fast, then you can set up shop in eBay or Amazon to get started and then start your own website when you have more capital.

53. Niche vs Mainstream:  Niche markets are markets for things that (a) only a few devoted customers will want such as rare books, antique lamp shades, or (b) more specific items that people are looking for, example Bamboo charcoal home air purifiers (instead of bamboo charcoal), edible bird nest of Borneo (instead of bird nest)  .  Although you won’t get as much traffic, you will get more interested traffic and thus you’ll be able to raise your prices a little.  Mainstream markets are markets in things like books, clothing, video games, and linens; stuff everybody wants, but can find in many different sites, so you have more competition and you’ll have to charge less.  However, you’ll get more traffic (provided you can rank on top of search engine result pages-SERPs) and more places to advertise.

54. Figure out what to sell.  Go with your strengths and what you already know a lot about so that it’s easier to establish yourself as an expert and so that you’re more passionate about your work. Communication

Choose your communication method.  There are several ways for you to get in touch with your customers, clients, and bosses and the more you have the better.  However, some ways are more practical than others, so choose which ways you want to use carefully and then stick with them.

55. Email:  Email is the most common way to get text, files, and pictures across to someone else.  Choose a business email account that you are comfortable using and, if you are using it for advertising, will not excite the notice of spam filters.  Business email accounts are best for this.  If you are working for someone else, you just need a reliable account that will allow you to send things securely and without fail. If you are running a few businesses and have few email accounts, you can consider importing your different emails into your Gmail account, Window Mail, Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird etc. That would save the hassle for you to check different email every day.

56. Telephone:  If you are going to be dealing with customers on a one-on-one basis, then you’ll want a telephone.  Opt for a Bluetooth wireless headset with quick access to a mute button (especially if you have kids) and make sure you have a cheap, reliable service provider. Any website that provides a telephone number for customer service will definitely have more sales!

57. Instant Messaging:  Instant messaging is most useful for casual conversations, brainstorming, and updating or asking questions about a project.  It shouldn’t be used for transferring files since the files could carry bugs or the computer receiving them may not have the compatible programs.  For a bonus in professionalism, limit the use of ‘texting language’; it makes you look unprofessional, unless you’re just having a friendly chat.

58. Virtual Desks:  Virtual desk software/websites allow both you and the people you work with to upload and share files, discuss work, and assign tasks.  These sites are usually free for simple use, but if you want to do a broader range of things with more people, someone will have to pay a fee.  Virtual desks are very useful though for managing people and tracking their work output.

59. Skype:  Skype warrants a special mention because it does instant messaging, phone calls, and video calls all in one for a very low cost or free if you’re only using it for instant messaging.  Skype allows you to do national and international calls at a vastly reduced rate from the regular phone service, making it extremely popular.

60. Of course, the best thing to do is to do a combination of things depending on circumstance; just be sure to choose methods you’re comfortable with and can keep up with. I am sure you do not want to publish your phone number on your website if you are selling porn movie. Live Chat will also increase your business if you have one on your website. People want solution fast, remember this.

Payment Online

61. Make sure to have secure payment for your customers through shopping cart software.  Even when you know it’s safe, make sure to tell them that it’s safe and why it’s safe for their peace of mind.

62. Have a secure line for your own banking and money management and always make sure to change your passwords regularly.

63. Use a secure online transaction site such as PayPal which guarantees the safety of your buying and selling and can even transfer money to your bank for free once you reach a certain amount of money in the account.

64. Allow max 3 clicks for people to get to the payment site. If it takes more than 3 clicks to get to the payment site, then your sale will definitely drop.

65. Statistic shows that with the logo of credit card or Paypal and few called to action on your website will increase the sale!

Advertising Around

66. Research the best ways to advertise your business.  Depending on what kind of home business owner you are, different methods work better.  For example, if you’re selling physical stuff, try Google AdWords to start with, which will generate traffic to you site fast; if you’re a web designer or writer, try a third party that hooks up workers with employers.  Do a search of the best places to advertise yourself and your products and find out what you need to do in order to obtain visibility.

67. Get an email address that isn’t one of the most common ones; email accounts like hotmail and yahoo are often viewed as spam email slots, so you’ll be taken less seriously when you send out email advertisements. If you have your own website, you can always set up a professional email address that attached to your domain name. One can get a FREE domain here with Host Monster.

68. Get to know your social media!  Nowadays, an online business does not do nearly as well without a page on a social media site as one with one.  Some of the ones to get to know: Facebook and Twitter are the hugest, but if you want to go more low-key, you can find social media that is more related to the products and/or services you’re offering.

69. Blogging.  Blogging is now one of the most common forms of communication; it lets people tell a wide audience all about a given topic.  It’s also fairly fast to write a daily entry in your blog, and yet it heightens your visibility and makes you look more like a professional and experienced in your field. Take advantage of the blogs to build links to the websites that you want to promote.

70. Spend the money (when you can) to hire a good graphic designer/artist/animator to create advertisements with real bang and that will attract new customers.  Although a bit pricey, it’s well worth the cost when you see your traffic jump.

71. The more you write/advertise/draw/talk about yourself, your company, your products and services, the more notice you get.  However, you’ll probably need help with this, so remember to look for your assistants.

72. Join some forums and communities related to your product.  When you do this, and actively participate, you make yourself into an expert in your chosen field which leads to trust which leads to sales.

73. Learn your article directories; these are places where you can submit articles about yourself, your company and your niche-the more the better. Ezine Articles is a very popular directory, but there are others like GoArticles etc.  These are free places to advertise and it’s fairly easy and straightforward to submit articles. It is good for back link building too.

74. Video advertising: Video advertising is a strong and powerful tool. You can post any video regarding your product and add a link in the description (do not forget to show your website link in the video too). The most popular place for you to post your video is of course YouTube. Other websites like MetaCafe, Google Video etc are also good for advertising. Listen…. The number of videos being viewed on Youtube is more than 175Mil per day (or inbound link to Youtube per day)! So do not underestimate the power of video marketing.

75. Keep everything updated, one way or another.  Even doing one article a day to a few directories and a couple forum postings a day is a good way to boost and maintain your visibility and that help your Google Ranking. Consistency is the word.

Outsourcing

Almost all the things you want to do online can be outsourced, if you know HOW! Of course you will have to pay for that. Easiest way is to recruit someone to be your project manager and she or he will sort and source everything out for you.

76. You can always ask for help somewhere along the line; even small online businesses will want to outsource at least one person to handle some of the work load.  Remember that just like paying for any start up materials, hiring on the right person or people is an investment. You can outsource any kind of work for your business; marketing, graphic design, research, customer service, website design; anything that you don’t want to do or can’t do well can be outsourced to someone somewhere.

77. Do your research into outsourcing carefully; check out any prospective employee/partner carefully by looking into their portfolio, their credentials and what other people have said about them (if possible).  Use either an outsourcing firm or a website that hooks freelancers up with businesses, depending on your needs and budget.

78. It’s best to get a couple constant employees/partners rather than bounce from person to person.  That way you can ‘train’ these people to do the work you want your way and you’ll know what to expect from that person (such as billing, schedules, quality and quantity of work and the temperament of that worker).

79. The Three Rs of keeping your employees happy and working well: Respect, Rehire, and Rewards.  As long as you respect, rehire and reward (i.e. pay promptly and fairly) your outsourced help, you’ll have loyal, helpful workers who will enhance and strengthen your business, turning what may have seemed like a financial liability into an asset.

80. Be very careful of inexperienced, unserious, and even scamming outsourced workers.  These people may not be as experienced as they claim (for example they may claim to be English speaking, but can’t write very well), they may be very slow or scattered in their work, and they may even try to take your money and run without delivering anything.  This is why you should be careful who you choose, work out a fair payment schedule (such as half upfront, half on delivery or all on delivery), and screen your potential employees to be sure they are what you want. Honesty

81. Honest dealings with your customers will get you more loyal customers.  Even if this means telling them that you’re out of stock, the site will be down or you have a virus on your computer that could spread, honesty is always the best policy.

Never promise to deliver more than you can give, even if it makes you look small time.  If you promise the world and fail, you not only look dishonest, but you look disorganized and furthermore the dreaded word scammer will start floating around about you.  Once word gets out that you’re a scammer, it’ll be really hard to scrape your reputation back up, so don’t even go near the danger zone.

83. Ebay is a typical example. People used to be able to buy Positive feedbacks on eBay, but now this is banned and people are not allowed to sell even digital products on eBay. This tells how important is it a positive feedback means for all sellers on eBay. The feedbacks that you are getting on eBay will affect the decision of the buyers.

Avoiding Scams

Unfortunately, working from home means going online a lot and this means you’ll be targeted by every single low life looking to make a quick buck off your new work and lack of knowledge.  Know how to avoid the scams, both in finding work and in dodging ‘offers’ and always listen to your gut. Always do your own Due Diligence before you jump in any offers. Forum is a good place to do your due diligence.

85. Never ever pay money to work.  You should never have to pay anyone to give you work; they should be paying you. However, if you’re looking at some networking opportunities, you will have to pay a start-up fee for materials, but always check the company out to make sure it’s legitimate.  If the company doesn’t have a real address and a phone number you can call them at, they’re not real.

86. Opportunities for business will not come through your email.  A lot of spam emails are scams; they deliver nothing but heartbreak.  You have to do your research to find a legitimate niche for your skills and even when you find it, you may still find yourself dealing with scammers and fraudulent clients.

87. Be professional and use some common sense.  If it looks too good to be true, it is.  If you need money, don’t broadcast it all over creation; that just summons the scammers to try to ply you with promises for fast easy cash.

88. Stuffing envelopes, medical billing from home, craft assembly, email processing, purchasing a list of companies looking for at-home workers, and typing at home are all examples of classic scams; they all ask you to pay money for whatever you ‘need’ and then send you nothing useful.

Avoiding Viruses, Trojans, Spyware, and Infections

89. An anti-virus program. You need a good working antivirus program because you’ll be cruising all kinds of sites (especially if you are a writer/researcher) and exposing your computer to all manner of viruses, Trojans, and spyware, so you need a line of defense. For most of the new computer, the anti-virus always comes together for free.

90. Never ever click on an unsolicited link from an email you don’t recognize.

91. Don’t add contacts to your messenger whose name you don’t recognize, they don’t have anything in their profile and they don’t send you a message.  These are spammers at best and virus ridden at worst.

92. Have a ‘spam’ email account which you can use to do research that requires memberships and newsletters.  That way you can sort it out at your leisure and not have your business inbox clogged.

Your Health While Working from Home

93. At home workers run the risk of becoming overweight and out of shape due to the hours spent in front of the computer.  In order to avoid this, make sure to go out on walks every day.  Not only will this help you keep your weight down, but it will also let you clear your head and work better.  By this token, make sure to leave the computer for breaks so you don’t get sore eyes or shoulders and neck.

94. Because the job can be dull, a lot of people eat more to stave off boredom.  Don’t fall to this trap!  Drink water and eat healthy snacks instead of junk or just go on a walk or read for a few minutes to take a break.

95. Working from home can make some people insular; if you are already anti-social, this career will make you more so simply because of all the time spent working.  Avoid this by inviting people to come over sometimes, going out yourself, and by talking to people face to face instead of just over the ‘net.  Remember, in order to stay mentally healthy, you need contact with the outside world!

96. At home workers tend to be workaholics in order to stay self motivated to work, but don’t let you yourself get overwhelmed.  Know the limits of your abilities and your time and don’t take on more than you can handle or you’ll burn out quickly and not be able to do much of anything.  It’s worth taking a day off to recharge so that you can work better when you get back to it.  Or else the same theory of ‘stay home when you’re sick’ applies even when you work at home.

The Myths Busted!

97. You will not get rich quick, I mean not over night, not over few months time.  Just like any business, you’ll have a slow start up and dry periods.  Make sure you have some outside source of income, especially in the first year where you’re just starting.  The old adage of Five holds true: in the first five weeks you’ll want to quit because you’ll be making little, in the first five months, most will start seeing some lights at the other end of the tunnel; but in five years, you’ll be doing a lot better and some people may already become millionaire (base on fact of many online marketers), so be persistent and understand that you won’t get rich quick.

98. You will not be only working a few hours a week and making tons of money at the beginning if you want to make it a full time job.  You will be working several hours a day, just like any job, and hopefully making some money.  If you have a big project, you may have to keep on top of your business, hire people if needed (and supervise them), write content, get pictures, research, the list goes on.  It’s a job, like any other, but once you get rolling, some things will get easier, some things will be almost automated, some things you’ll get used to and some things you’ll hire others to do. Then you will work few hours a week at your own flexi hours. But…but if you just want an extra income, then working part-time or few hours a week will also generate you handsome income in long term.

99. You will not exactly be making your own hours; just blocking out the best times to work during the day.  You still have to work a certain amount of time per week in order to get everything done.  However, you can pick the best times to work, such as nights or mornings depending on your temperament.

100. When you are really into internet marketing, you will keep buying because you have made some money. And you will be attending internet courses, classes, conferences and also gathering with the likes. It is a good practice as things change every day online. It may not surprise you when I tell you my mum, my aunties, uncles and even my friends’ babies have Facebook account. But you may be surprised when someone blind also go on Facebook. Facebook is the fastest growing social medial online. They have 300+ million users at this very moment. Malaysia itself has 3.5million users at the time of writing. Please see the screen shot below for the Malaysia statistic from my monitor. For your information, the number of facebook users in Malaysia is growing at the rate of around 1500 per day! This is huge.

While Facebook is growing strong, there was report that Twitter is going downhill after Presidential Election in the States. Obviously the hike of Twitter usage was due to the well plan digital war from the team of President Obama. The American were following every move of Mr. Obama via Twitter at that time. According the eMarketer, the traffic of Twitter was down dramatically 27.8% from Sept to Oct 2009, within a mere 1 month.

Why so many people are using Facebook now? The straight forward answer is for Networking.  It is a place where you can share you news, your products, your views with your friends, your friends’ friends, your friends’ friends’ friends….  Let me give you a simple diagram presentation below:

For example, look at the very simple diagram showing the relationship of four Facebook community members:
I am in one Facebook group with Mr. B, and another, different, group with Mr. D. The nature of the Facebook community means, therefore, that all of their information will be freely passed to me, and, similarly, my information will be passed back to both of them.

Mr. B. also receives similar information from Ms. C, and inevitably some of that information will then be passed on to me. From there, it is reasonable to assume that the information will reach Mr. D and so on and so forth. This is a very simple example of the ‘social graph’ that Facebook see as being of fundamental importance to Facebook platform, which is effectively the latest version of the Facebook site and system.
