Fire at Wayang Street, the Historical Area of Kuching

In less than 2 months time, another fire broke out at the old town of Kuching. This time it was at the Wayang Street, right opposite the Star Cineplex. It is believed that the fire started at the Tattoo Parlour at around 10:30pm on Saturday night (6th Feb) and spread to the hardware shop on the left. It was noticed that the roofing of the shop on the right also caught fire at around midnight before the 2nd fire engine arrived on the fire scene.

The fire was put out before it spread to the 4th shop. So what was the cause of the fire? I believe your guess is as good as mine. But according to the shop owners around that area, there have seen some electricians fixing ‘something’ at the Tattoo parlour since the past 2 days. When the Tattoo parlour caught fire, those electricians run to the shop nearby asking for the telephone number of Bomba (fire department) and disappeared after that. So lets imaging what were those electricians actually doing there in the Tattoo parlour?

I feel sorry for the shop owners affected by the fire, especially Chinese New Year is only 1 week away.

Tzu Chi are the 1st and only volunteers to arrive at the fire scene to help out. They even cook for the firemen! I really take my hat off for them, not to mention some of them are ‘aunties, uncles’ and also it was 2-3am in the morning!
